What is a Deacon?
The Bay Presbyterian Board of Deacons consists of 33 church members who serve in ministries of mercy and compassion. Deacons are elected by the congregation and serve a three year term. The Board of Deacons meets once each month, but serve continuously. Click here for a current list of Deacons. What do the Deacons do?
The Deacons are organized into three ministry teams:
Congregational Care This team serves members of the church, and works on projects such as:

Providing and staffing receptions following memorial services or funerals as needed.

Coordinating Deacon correspondence with bereaved members following death of spouse,child, or parent.

Coordinating poinsettia and Easter Lily delivery to elderly, homebound and bereaved.

Coordinating transportation to and from worship as requested.

Coordinating the annual Staff Appreciation Month.

Coordinating fellowship events at the Knickerbocker apartments.
Community Outreach This team serves the community and works on projects such as:

Coordinating Project Angel Tree Christmas gift distribution and party for children of incarcerated who participate in Prison Fellowship Bible study.

Raising awareness and funds for holiday meals for the Hunger Network of Cleveland through the Lenten Hunger Campaign.

Collecting and distributing newly purchased underwear and socks for the homeless and those in transitional housing through our Operation Undercover.

Volunteering at Brookside Hunger Center monthly to assist staff with distribution of groceries.
Financial Assistance
The Deacon Fund is generated from the loose offering on Communion Sundays, as well as gifts designated to the Deacon Fund specifically. This fund is available to anyone needing emergency assistance through the following process:

The Financial Assistance Team prayerfully discerns appropriate level of support and notifies recipient.
